CTF Supports Senior Officials Accountability Bill

Author: Carl Vallée 2017/09/28

MONTRÉAL, QC - Canadian Taxpayers Federation Quebec Director, Carl Vallée, issued the following statement following the introduction of a bill by Éric Caire, Member of Parliament for La Peltrie, that will amend the Public Administration Act and other provisions to ensure that a deputy minister or an officer of an organization is held accountable to the National Assembly for the efficiency of his department or agency:

"With this bill, members of the National Assembly have the opportunity to place the interest of Quebec taxpayers above the interest of senior officials who, in practice, are often transferred in case of failure, often with thanks. We believe it is healthy that the principle of job security be challenged. However, members should go a step further by looking at it across the public service. This bill is a step in the right direction to improve the efficiency of the Quebec government and we encourage the government and the other opposition parties to support it."
